About

Stephen MartinHello. My name is Stephen Martin although I’m widely known as Steve in the radio industry.

I proudly represent the BBC and its services in Southern and West Africa. Previously I served as a BBC editor for six years, working across journalism and marketing. I was also project director to the BBC World News channel.

For much of my media career I have specialised in promotions and navigation, helping people to find, value and enjoy content across different media platforms. I was a writer and producer before managing creative teams myself, leading them to award-winning success for more than ten years.

From 1998-2002 I led the radio operation at what is now Red Bee Media and from 2003-2009 I edited the on-air promotions output and managed the production and media planning staff and the sound, style and tone of the BBC World Service.

Where journalism, marketing and digital technologies meet is a great place to be if you’re enthusiastic about the future, are platform-impervious and believe in the value of public service broadcasting.

Earshot is a blog centred on my working interests. If you want to talk sailing, kite flying and being a daddy then there are other places for that.

Anything within Earshot reflects personal views held by me at the time I wrote them.
